An Inspector Calls, how does Priestly resent the character of Goole Essays

An Inspector Calls, how does Priestly resent the character of Goole Essays An Inspector Calls, how does Priestly resent the character of Goole Paper An Inspector Calls, how does Priestly resent the character of Goole Paper youre quite wrong to believe I will regret what I did I was perfectly justified in advising the committee not to allow her claim for assistance I accept no blame for it at all. This shows that she is getting sharp with the inspector we can see this by how she says I accept no blame for it at all. This shows how heartless she is she said that also to protect her reputation on the board of the charity because this is an important factor in her life. Mrs. Birling seems to know little about her family, and their habits she finds out this when the inspector informs them that the baby she was carrying was Erics so the inspectors visit has gave her a lot of information on her own family, this shows she didnt know her own family too well because she was too busy playing the rich and upper class lady she also finds out about Erics drinking habits. Mrs. Birling learnt nothing from the experience of the inspectors visit this shows that she was very ignorant and rude during the duration of his stay, but she may learn one point from his visit and that would be too keep quiet and keep the information to herself. She is not willing to discuss people of a lower class than her so she only hears what she wants to hear she only likes to know she is better than them and that she can overrule them. Gerald is the son of Birlings rival industrialist, Sir George Croft. He is calm and collective all the time no matter where he is or what situation in which he is upon he is polite and tactful with Mr and Mrs Birling. Gerald is around thirty so he is older than Sheila and Eric. He is trusted with the secret of Arthur Birlings possible knighthood, Gerald also has views on how a factory should be run and how the workers who work inside it are treated and the importance of breaking even or making a profit are all also in the interests of Mr Birling. Gerald also supports the reasoning with which Mr Birling Justifies Eva Smith sacking from the firm. Gerald met Eva again but she had changed her name to Daisy Renton Gerald saves her from the awkward situation with Alderman. Gerald helps Eva/Daisy out however his intensions go astray as he found her attractive from the start and allowed his feelings to develop, he felt affection for Eva/Daisy but admits that her feelings for him were much stronger than his feelings were for her. He only offered her temporary help and when he left her he gave her money to help her start a new life. The fact that Gerald made Eva/Daisy happy for a while made him regret the way in which he had used her but he does not have such a deep response as Sheila does to the inspectors message. He acts on his superstitions, and as a result he is the one who begins the chain of events leading to the feeling of certainty that Goole had been an imposter. Eric Birling is not quite at ease, hes half shy but half assertive. He does not seem to have his fathers approval on the views he has his father just pushes his ideas aside and doesnt take him very seriously. His father does not keep him up to date about his possible knighthood and when Eric really needed help he felt that he couldnt talk to his father because he thought that he couldnt turn to his father because he didnt think his father was the kind of man that a chap could talk about his problems too. Eric has forced his way into Evas home and got her pregnant and he also stolen money from his family, obviously his parents didnt know this but they also found out that he also drinks too much. Like Sheila he feels sympathy for Eva Smith as soon as he hears how Mr Birling had sacked her. When he has to admit how he behaved towards her he has a stronger sense of guilt than the other because the consequences of what he did are so much worse. It is not surprising that he turns violently on his mother when he learns how she had refused to help the girl. He curses his mother and accuses her of killing both the girl and the child. He had also been rude to his farther earlier and his rudeness to his parents increases the more he drinks. So we can get a picture in our head of what the defenseless girl felt when Eric was so drunk. Eric appears to have learnt very little from his privileged education. Eric is one of the ones who have been impressed by the inspector he wants his parents to admit their mistakes as freely as he has admitted his. Even though we can see he has an aggressive side it appears he his learnt a lesson from the inspectors visit and is sincerely ashamed of his behavior and is capable like Sheila for changing for the better. So the question is How does priestly present the character of Goole, if he is not a real policeman, why has he come to visit the Birlings? What are the results of his visit? Well the inspector is introduced when the Birlings are having a celebration, this interruption spoils the celebration and takes away the party spirit that was there before the inspector turned up, the inspector is introduced as an inspector from the local constabulary the constabulary that Mr Birling knows very well, this is why he questions him about which constabulary he is from. The inspector talks with sarcasm to the family at first as they are very rude and demanding, once everyone settled he became more at ease and so did the family. But what if he wasnt a real policeman? Then why has he come to the Birlings? This is simple even if he wasnt a policeman he could have came to point out the conflict that is going on between the family and also the hurt and pain that they are constantly putting Eva through but dont know it, this Goole character might be acting in the best interests of Eva he might be a close friend or relation who cares for her and dont want to see her get any more hurt than she already is. Goole wants us to think open mindedly about his character, in some ways he makes us think he isnt a real inspector and in others he tries to influence us into believing him, this is what got the information out of the Birlings by doing this confused them about what he was, this way once one person started talking then they all started but obviously some were sharp with the inspector. Eva and Eric at the end of the play seem sympathy for Eva Gerald is stuck in the middle by being caring and ignorant (he is neither ignorant or caring he is in the middle of everything) Mr Mrs Birling are two cold hearted people who only care about what they can make for themselves, they low down at lower class people as if they dont exist. So overall the inspectors visit has changed Sheilas and Erics attitudes he has shown them what they have caused and they are now sorry and sympathetic, they are willing to change for the better as for Mr and Mrs Birling we can only say that the only thing that they have learnt is to be quiet in the future when inspectors ask them questions they learnt nothing from the inspectors visit whatsoever , Gerald is stuck in the middle of everything he neither feels sympathetic or argumentative hes a person who has strong views but also strong feelings. So overall this makes us feel that the Birlings household have been a very sad family from the start, they need to open up to each other and share their feelings, they need to get things off their mind if anything is bothering them by doing this Eric would not have had to turn to alcohol for answers.

The Summary of African Queen Movie Applying Thomas Fosters Terms Review

The Summary of African Queen Applying Thomas Fosters Terms - Movie Review Example Charlie’s coarse behavior is intolerable, though the Sayers tolerate it in a rather stiff manner. Charlies’ behavior is considered to be a little too rough and that edges around their proper Christian and British sensibilities. My Allnut’s heavy drinking habit is regard as problematic by the Sayers (Huston and John, p. 234). Charlie warns them about the oncoming World War I which broke out between Britain and Germany. The Sayers opt to continue staying in East Africa, only to witness the Sudanese Soldiers (In East Africa) led by the Germans touch their mission village and flee the villagers. The Germans believes that this is the only way to control the natives and train them to offer military services. Due to the raiding on the village and burning of the village houses, Reverend Sayer experienced a serious shock and delirious with fever after watching what the Germans did and later passed away. Mr. Allnut returns shortly after the raid. He is informed that the Reverend has passed on and they then bury him. Mr. Allnut soon helps Sister Sayer escape from the ravaged Germans by boarding the African Queen. The ravaged missionary compound is left bare, and no person is left in the compound. Along the way, Mr. Allnut mentions to Sister Sayer how the German have a gunboat (Queen Luise) which monitors and contro l a large water body downriver where they effectively block themselves from any British attack.

Beggaining of Judaism Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Beggaining of Judaism - Essay Example During the foundation of this religion, God Discovers Abraham and calls him into a covenant. In this covenant, Abraham is called to be the father of numerous descendants who would be a special nation to God as they would be a case in point for the world. The world would be called to emulate this nation in terms of holiness and commendable conduct. For these special descendants, God would give the Land of Canaan or the Holy land between River Jordan and the Mediterranean Sea. Today, this land comprises the territories of Israel and Palestine while the religion headquarters remains as Jerusalem despite the absence of a temple or other forms of jurisdictional influence (Patheos.com para1). In order to guide the lives of the Israelites, God provided the Israelites with a set of rules. These rules were in the form of the Ten Commandments, which were to guide them. The rules were given to Moses at Mount Sinai. Other religious practices that the Jews were expected to adhere to were the sacrifices and prayer at the altar of sacrifice, sacred tree or stone pillar. Sacrifices were meant for retaining a strong relationship with God through recognizing His authority and influence over their lives. In addition, the Israelites were expected to remain as a religious community. This was possible through Circumcision, a practice that was acceptable for all male children eight days after birth (Religiousfacts.com para11 ). Religiousfacts.com further records that the relationship between the Jews was at first stormy and filled with challenges, especially during the journey to the Promised Land and in the Promised Land. For forty years, the Jews journeyed in the wilderness with Moses playing the key roles of a leader religiously, politically, military and legislatively. In the wilderness, God sustained them until He led them into the promised land of Canaan after entering into a covenant with them. The covenant required the

Life Cycle Stages Essay Example for Free

Life Cycle Stages Essay There are four stages in the financial life cycle of an individual. The accumulation, saving, pre-retirement and retirement stages. Judging from the financial ratios of Winston and Yvonne, we concluded that Winston and Yvonne are in stage 2: the savings stage of the financial life cycle phase. This stage of the life cycle is usually characterized by the increase of assets, net worth and the decline in the use of debts, as by this stage Winston and Yvonne have already accumulated more assets over the years and would seek to protect their wealth and priorities and at the same time seek to be more risk adverse than before. People in this stage are usually concerned in saving for the future like children’s education, retirement etc. As the savings Ratio can be easily explained by the amount of money a person saves as a percentage of their total income. The level of savings as a percentage of Winstons and Yvonnes income is 60.41% as calculated is expected of the couple in their mid 30s falling in this stage of the life cycle as it portrayed high savings planning for the future of their children’s education. In the savings stage of the life cycle, we could expect an increase in net worth and assets as those had been accumulated before reaching conservation phases in that cycle. The increase in assets meant that Winston and Yvonne have a relatively high net worth as calculated at 74.51%. As Winston and Yvonne have a relatively high net worth ratio, their financial solvency is lower as most of their funds are being tied up with their fixed assets and their high net worth ratio also showed that their investments and commitments are being funded by debts and trade payables that are not proportionate. Winston and Yvonne might also face problems such as liquidity problems as their high ratio meant that they do not have immediate access to their cash. Therefore any decline in value of their investments or in any aspect that is relevant to their assets would cause them to have the inability to pay back their debt, thus lead to bankruptcy. Winston and Yvonne should seek to lower their net worth ratio by diversifying their funds in lesser fixed assets like property, home contents and education funds as lowering the ratio of their net worth would help them have more f inancial flexibility and ability to meet their financial payment obligations. http://smallbusiness.chron.com/interpret-assetstonetworth-ratios-57281.html. http://www.accountingtools.com/net-worth-ratio. As Winston and Yvonne are in their wealth protection phase, we explained that there would be an indication of a high net worth and a decrease in the use of debts. The debt Service ratio is the monthly debt commitments in comparison to total income and expressed in a percentage. In other words it is the ratio of the ability to repay loans over a period of time. If a debt service ratio is too high it would mean that one is too highly leveraged and has a high amount of loan and in the long run might run into difficulties in repaying off the loan commitment in the future. In this stage we expected financial prudence and a high risk adversity. The low debt service ratio of Winston and Yvonne at 14.21% indicated the low dependability on debt and increases their ability to service their debt, reducing the risk of them not being able to continue going in the long run. This could be expected of them as they are seeking to save for the future and make sure that they are able to service their l iabilities in the long run and not exhausted halfway through by limiting their commitments and slowly getting a debt free approach when it comes to their retirement. http://www.e-conomic.co.uk/accountingsystem/glossary/debt-ratio.

Insanity in The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe Essay -- The Tell-T

Edgar Allen Poe's "The Tell Tale Heart" is a short story about how a murderer's conscience overtakes him and whether the narrator is insane or if he suffers from over acuteness of the senses. Poe suggests the narrator is insane by the narrator's claims of sanity, the narrator's actions bring out the narrative irony of the story, and the narrator is insane according to the definition of insanity as it applies to "The Tell Tale Heart". First, Poe suggests the narrator is insane by his assertions of sanity. For example, the narrator declares because he planned the murder so expertly he could not be insane. He says, "Now this is the point. You fancy me mad. Madmen know nothing. But you should have seen how wisely I proceeded-with what caution-with what foresight-with what dissimulation I went to work!" In addition, every night at midnight the narrator slowly went into the room of the old man. He claims this was done so wisely that he could not be insane. The narrator thinks that if a murder is carefully planned then the murderer is not insane. Also, the narrator claims he suffers from over acuteness of the senses. Regarding the sound of the old man's beating heart, the narrator says, "And now have I not told you that what you mistake for madness is but over-acuteness of the senses? --now, I say, there came to my ears a low dull, quick sound, such as a watch makes when enveloped in cotton". The narrator claims he is n ot imagining the sound but he is hearing it because his senses are so sharp. The narrator believes he is justified in killing the old man because the man has an Evil Eye. The narrator claims the old man's eye made his blood run cold and the eye looked as if it belonged to a vulture. Poe shows the narrator is insane... ...arly shows that the narrator is insane because he heard noises, which could not possibly have occurred. As the police officers were sitting and talking in the old man's chamber, the narrator becomes paranoid that the officers suspect him of murder. The narrator says, "I could bear those hypocritical smiles no longer! I felt that I must scream or die". The narrator is deluded in thinking the officers knew of his crime because his insanity makes him paranoid. In conclusion, Poe shows the insanity of the narrator through the claims of the narrator as to why he is not insane, the actions of the narrator bring out the narrative irony of the story, and the character of the narrator fits the definition of insanity as it applies to "The Tell Tale Heart". The "Tell Tale Heart" is a story about how insanity can overtake someone's mind and cause one to behave irrationally.

Annual Taxation Rate| 24%| |   | Expected Growth Rate for the first 5 years: 3-7% UNDERSTANDING ISSUES This Tooth Gel research is based on a series of methods for conducting research in the corporate world. The Tooth Gel and Toothpaste market is captivated by various brands and their own mission statements. Famous brands among the consumers like Colgate, Oral-B, etc have a captivating hold on market du e to their own market strategy. Therefore, majority of them are successful to qualify the requirements of the customers.Whitening Tooth Gel has a strong focus on its objectives with those of its trade partners in an appropriate manner to maintain a healthy relationship. The Organization understands that the good results are produced when the process is rightly followed. Whitening Tooth Gel has also developed its company’s ethics and principle that relate to their consumer class. These guidelines provide a great impact in meeting business targets and is committed to its values thereby upholding its highest standards in maintaining customer relations.Whitening Tooth Gel is a new product by DENTALCARE in the current market. Hence the concern is that will a new product be able to grow and capture a significant share in the Oral Care Market. With proven results from pre-launch analysis, will it be easy enough capture the market once the results are seen on a real time basis i. e. response from the consumers. The company may emphasise on marketing research and analysis as to understand the consumer viewpoint on their buying strategy and behaviour towards a new consumer product. VALIDATING THE PROPOSED RESEARCHThe first question that arises is that how will a consumer respond to a new brand of an existing commodity in the market? When it comes to the purchasing, consumers often have an organized approach in what and when to buy. The company must come up with an innovative and almost perfect idea to strategize the marketing research when there are quite a few brands available in the similar product category. A thorough understanding of the consumer buying power and strategy is essential before launching the product. Thus the first task is to divert the consumer attention towards the product by advertising and promotional campaigning.Simultaneous emphasis has to be given to the consumer’s interest, requirements and their expectations from the product. Her e we see the implication of the Market research theory. Once sparked, the interest can lead to the beginning of a new relationship between the consumer and the company which becomes product driven. Once the decision is made by the consumer, it becomes a big responsibility of the manufacturing and research unit of the organization on keep up to the consumer’s expectations and sustains the consistency in delivering the best. The product distribution should be as good as its promotion and the product should be readily available to every individual. Product awareness is within the hands of the marketing and research procedures and largely contributes in providing the products to the majority of the masses. The consumers are not tied up with any contract with a certain brand. They stick to it as long as the brand sticks to its commitment. It’s easier to create a consumer relationship compared to maintaining it in future. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY AND DESIGNThis Methodology proced ure includes various sub categories such as phases, methods, technique task and tools. These sub-categories will highlight the following ways: * To introduce the new product in the existing market * To analyse and develop on the principles of methods and * To successfully validate it i. e. both scientifically and systematically. We followed Descriptive research process to analyse and understand the idea about the research proposal. The results however may vary depending upon a number of economical and ethical factors. The process helps a lot in enhancing the consumer feedback.Qualitative techniques can be performed on the selection of one brand over the other to obtain certain parameters which are of utmost importance in deciding for a Tooth Gel brand. Each key point can be utilized for further development of surveys. The research would most likely be a Brand equity research or Buyer behaviour research. Listed below are a few key questions to understand a consumer’s behaviour towards a newly launched product:. Questionnaire: 1) What Age group do you fall in? 2) Do you brush your teeth twice a day? 3) Are you branding conscious when it comes to buying? ) Why did you prefer Whitening Tooth Gel? 5) Are you satisfied with the product pricing when compared to the results produced? 6) Is there any room for improving the product thereby improving consumer experience? Listed below is the data of a few Blacktown residents who took part in the Sample survey by using Whitening Tooth Gel sample packs offered by DENTALCARE: Sample Frame: Residents of Blacktown NSW Sample Unit : Age Group 21-40 years Sample Size : 50 feedbacks Time Frame : 3-4 weeks Sampling Method: Random Survey. CONCLUSIONThe pre-launch analysis/research immensely contributed to understand the buying behaviour of consumer for their Toothpaste/Gel brands and also helped in understanding about the awareness among people on Oral health. Oral care is one of the most important factor in maintaining over all body health and people are very much aware about their product selection criteria. Different Toothpaste/Gel companies have a focus on the consumer class, their buying capability and their attitude towards preferring a Toothpaste/Gel brand over another and are working harder and smarter to attract more consumers by coming up with more improvements and innovation. The Pre Launch understanding of the Oral care market and the products available is the key result extracted from this research. This research has enabled the company to identify the key areas where the customer would focus when it comes to switching over to a new brand. This nature of customer shall help a lot for our Tooth Gel as Whitening Tooth Gel possesses all the qualities which customer want and is a perfect remedy for all kinds of dental issues. Simultaneously, Advertisements and Campaigning can be done in order to promote the product sales and inturn receiving better consumer experience.Since Dental awareness play s a vital role in overall fitness of human body, free dental check up camps and concessional services to elderly people can actually divert consumer attention towards a product that has already proven its worth on a real time experience. This will help in maintaining a healthy and long term relationship between an organization and the consumer class. The Portrayal Of Black Culture On American Television Essay

Paying select attention to signs and images produced and presented by television media, this essay will analyze the portrayal of Black culture on American television and how it has been constructed based on the system of representation controlled and influenced by White ideologies of the â€Å"Other†. The 1980’s sitcom â€Å"The Cosby Show† will be referenced in representing the evolution of Black representation and the effect it had on audience’s interpretation of race and class structure. Representation and What it means According to Stuart Hall, representation means â€Å"using language to say something meaningful or to represent the world to other people† (1997, p. 15). Representations are essential parts in producing and exchanging meanings between people of certain cultures. These meanings depend on a system of concepts that shape and form the world around us based off of agreed understandings of images and words held by a community of people. Because we interpret the world in similar ways, people are able to build a shared culture of meanings that construct a social world. With representation, constructionists argue we use signs, organized into languages of different kinds, to communicate with others (O Shaughnessy Stadler , 2012, p. 406). Languages can use signs to symbolize, stand for or reference objects, people and events within reality (Hall, 1997, p. 25). Meanings are constructed through signifying practices (O Shaughnessy Stadler , 2012, p. 406), but we cannotShow MoreRelatedTelevision s Influence On Our Vision On Worldview And Culture877 Words   |  4 Pagesmodern times, television (T.V.) has become a crucial part of our everyday lives.
